| anothersite.co.uk Frequently Asked Questions Why can't I see any Pics? / All I see are Red X's? The "Red X" problem is a common problem for users with Norton Internet Security. By default, it blocks images posted by our in-house uploader. You will need to go in and turn down the privacy controls in order to view the images again. For those users who don't have Norton, cannot see images at all, and/or cannot get a response from the "Upload Image" button, this is a combination bandwidth overload and DNS (Domain Name Server) problem. Anothersite is often a busy place, and the uploader's connection can get jammed up sometimes. We're working on upping capacity, so please keep trying. If the problem is persistent and happens even when the site traffic is low, it is possible that you are having an issue resolving the address for anothersite or the uploader. Please try restarting your modem and browser. How do I post a picture? At the top of the picture boards is a sticky thread with details and a "test area" to post pics. But this is the short version of posting a picture. If you use our in-house uploader (The "Upload Image" button): Browse on your directory and select the image you wish to post. Click "open" to paste the name into the box, then click "Upload" If the file is uploaded, you'll get a response window similar to: ![]() (Highlighted for this FAQ, the actual box is black/white) Note at the top, it says "File was uploaded". If your file is too large, it will say "File was to big". Check for this, as you will get a copy link in both cases, but it will not work if the file is oversize. If your file is over the size limit, you will need to shrink it down in order to upload properly. When you post, copy the highlighted line and paste it directly as text. This line already has necessary image tags [ IMG ] for formatting. If you are using an external image host: Depending on the host, you may or may not be given the open to copy a link "for forums" that has the same [ IMG ] tags already in place. If so, paste as text just like the in-house uploader. If not, you will want to copy the "direct image link". This is the link that works when pasted into your browser address bar. Either paste as text and manually enter the image tags, or paste into the box when you click on the "Insert Image" button in the post editor window. What happened to my Post? If you had a post, but now it's gone, it was likely moved. To best find out where it went, search for posts written by yourself (click on your name to get to your profile, then use the link on the left hand side). There are many reasons a post may be moved, but the most common reasons are: a) Rule Violation (typically, Spam) If you posted spam, it will be deleted. The only exceptions are for active and contributing members, who may post in the "SpamSpamSpam" section of the board. b) Posted in the wrong Board Posts/threads are often moved because they were posted where they don't belong. For example, nude pics do not belong in General Chatter. Links to a CNN story don't belong in SFW Pics. c) Reposts If a posted thread is a repeat of another thread, it may be deleted or moved to the trash. d) Newbie Requests Requests made by first-time or non-contributing members may be deleted or trashed. Posting of material is a labour of love for many of the regulars. It's time consuming, often frustrating, and goes thankless by a large portion of those who enjoy the fruits of their labour. Be certain that you've become a regular contributor before posting a request. Making requests without contributing is an insult to some of the posters and may be interpreted as "I can't be arsed to take the trouble to post, but could you spend all day finding me a video of that bird with the big breasts and upload it for me? Thanks." Such requests are usually met with hostility more often than actual pics or vids, so they are trashed. Who do I contact if I have a Question that's not Listed Here? If you have a question, please contact any moderator on-duty at the time. If there are no moderators that you can find, then please post your question in the "Technical Support " board, and we will get back to you. Posting to a offline moderator or to DM may delay your response as you do not know when they are online next.] |
