Info Magic Jack VOIP

Just an FYI...

I just bought a "magic jack" for VOIP.

$40 for the device includes the first year of service. I am paying $30 / mo for VOIP now so it was a no-brainer. Plus it's portable so away from home you can take your VOIP with you.

Set up was easy, call quality is perfect so far.

The only potential downside is that it's USB so my computer has to be on to have phone service. I usually leave mine on so not a big deal for me.

I few of my friends got it as well, I haven't heard anyone say anything but good things about it. Personally I only use a cell phone, I dont see a need for a land line

I was under the impression that the TV ad quotes the price as $19.95... maybe they said $39.95 instead.

$19.95 a year for service. You pay $39.95 for the device and it includes the first year.

That interesting to hear, cause I had only heard bad things about it. Keep us posted.

I've had it for 2 months myself, it's pretty ok for $20 a year.

I am now using it on a wireless network provided by my building. Call quality is great. No issues.

I moved the computer... wireless signal strength went from 98% to 63% and I had a few gaps in my last call. Still playing with it.

Still working great...but... if my wireless signal strength drops below 65% I start getting gaps and there is occasionally random touch-tone sounds on the calls.

I now have my magic jack plugged into another computer at a different location, it auto installed and brought up the history and contacts from home. I plugged in the phone and dial tone... presto... home phone working at a different location.

I thought that was pretty neat.

That's interesting... and very handy. If someone calls your home phone does it ring at the new location?

Yes! Rings wherever I have it plugged in.

Mine is getting serious static issues with the random touch-tone noises. It is getting irritating as hell. My internet connection is comcast cable and a hard wire network... I am thinking it may be my phone because it is an old Uniden 2.4gHz. I am gonna get an upgrade and change it's location and see if that helps, I am sure it will.
