Apparently this trojan puts a backup of its files into your system restore information. You need to switch off the system restore function temporarily, then do another scan with your anti-malware programs andreboot. The trojan should be gone then, if it actually is, you can switch system restore back on.

Good idea. If you want to give firefox a shot, let us know and we can help you with suggestions on how to set it up and which add-ons to get.

To turn off System Restore
Open System Properties.
Ensure that the Turn off System Restore check box is selected.
Note

To open System Properties, click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System. In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab.

Yes. After disabling system restore, run that^^^^

My System restore is permanently disabled nowadays and all my important stuff is backed up to an external HD, if something happens that i cant fix then its time for a format/reinstall System Restore seems to be the hiding place for too many viruses.....

Not to mention it eats up a lot of space and system memory with multiple points. Some folks like it, when it works...I'm with Goof.
If my system gets pooched to the point where I consider using system restore, it's time to lay down a new carpet

That's odd. I'm starting to clutch at straws here, but two other things I could think of are:

1. run a registry repair program such as CCleaner or the registry tool in Spybot, and see if it fixes the rogue registry entry

2. download firefox or opera and delete internet explorer from your system altogether.

In this day and age a browser supported by microsoft is always still used as a way to get into your computer

getting into your system by getting a file and opening it without scanning first you have yourself to blame a touch but through IE it's a damn shame

reboot into safe mode. run malwaybytes. reboot and see if its still infected.

to boot into safe mode, hit f8 at the beginning of the boot process and select safe mode.

cc cleaner is another good idea.

If Malwarebytes doesn't kill it ...

(Cathy, pls update malwarebyte's definitions, then run the 'complete' scan.)

...can she just do a hardcore deletion of the registry entry? or will the little bastard keep reinventing itself when she boots?

Hey I've read something about that zlob trojan shit before...I think there's an online tool for it either thru Norton or trendmicro....

best help i could find, has removal instructions etc..

but before going through the f secure route, i would try malwarebytes software first.
