software Burning Problem with WMP 11

I am running a parred down version of XP SP3 with Windows Media Player installed. I can read/play songs off the CD player but I can not burn them to the CD. The error I get is "please connect a burner and then restart" I can use WinAVI 9 to burn DVDs and UltraISO to burn ISOs and I downloaded and installed a program to burn audio CDs last night and it worked. I used to be able to burn using WMP 11 but I can't anymore. Anyone have any ideas why and what I might need to do to fix this. I haven't tried changing anything in the registry or reinstalling WMP 11. To the best of my knowledge there hasn't been any updates to the computer lately.

Was it working fine before? Did it just stop working out of the blue?

It was working about a month ago, then about a week ago I tried burning a cd and it wouldn't work. I figured maybe the disc was bad. Took the disc to my laptop and burned using it's WMP 11 and it worked fine. I don't know if WMP got updated during one of the automatic updates and stopped working.

Try this.

Go to Start/Run, and type in regsvr32.exe. wmp.dll

Hope this helps.

I have NEVER been able to burn using any version of WMP

Trying one last time with 11...it wanted me to drag and drop a playlist to create the file to burn
and I get stopped there.I guess it's because I never let it scan my media library.Waaaay too invasive
and I get a sense that WMP 11 already accesses the net and my files a little much for my liking.

sorry couldn't help more

I am now, but I used WMP 11 since it was part of the OS and burned audio CDs well, or it used to

I just drag the files to burn from my windows explorer window in WMP, that puts them in the library and then I drag them to the burn list. Yes WMP does talk to the internet. But I am not worried about it

go to RUN -type "services.msc" (without the quotation marks)- Double click IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service and change startup type to automatic and then click start. Next time you burn you should be fine.

No problem, I've had problems with this setting and guessed you'd find it disabled, glad it's fixed.
