Yes, I need that badly and have been getting ready for it by moving a lot of stuff to another hard drive. I have WAY too much crap on this hard drive. I reinstalled firefox and it says it is already running but not responding. ctl-alt-del reveals it is NOT running and I can't stand IE... my computer is hanging bad... guess I am gonna have to find the time to re-format and re-install... I think.

I do too. Spent so much time on my last install getting everything just so to maximize the ability of this old hunk of junk to perform. I really should've figured out how to make an image or install file of it before I started getting it all funkified again.

It doesn't to me either!
As soon as the drivers for my MB finish downloading, I am doing a clean sweep, complete format and start fresh ... hopefully that will fix any lingering problems!

Last time around I installed a stripped down version of XP. It's really pretty gutted (around 200mb total) but fits my basic needs well. It really zips along for an older comp!!

Do you have an ISO or something of the install you can share with group?

This computer is really a hunk of junk . . . I've been upgrading it over the years, so it barely gets by. 1.6 GHz P4 with 1GB of memory. I've upgraded the memory, video card, added a cheapo SB audio card cause the chipset on the MB was sucking and had lots of interference, USB 2.0 card, replaced the HDD with two new PATA IDE's, new optical disc drive . . . .

You think 1 gig of memory makes it a hunk of junk? I have a mere 256mb. I'd like to double that though, cause well...

Anyway, back to my original suggestion, try Opera...

See, firefox designers have been claiming for years that the 'next version' will fix the memory issues. I know this because I was a very early adopter, long before they ever released version 1.0 back in 2004 or whatever it was (actually, the 0.x days were kinda cool, cause you knew you had an emerging technology and each pre 1.0 edition added a substantial number of new features, and often incorporated the best loved extensions right into the core features). In fact, I was very convinced by all the endless designer propaganda that 1.0 would fix it, because they kept making all these claims about how the 'memory issue' was their number 1 concern. Anyway, after 1.5 hit and the issues just got incrementally worse, I finally bailed on it.

Firefox will never fix the memory issues. Ever. They've been claiming they will for half a decade now and if anything, things have only gotten worse.

And when you have 256mb of memory, this is a concern.

And to be honest, I switched to firefox for the supposed security advantages over IE, unaware that Opera always had a superior record to ANY other browser (and it still does). Also, Opera had tabs first I believe, and IE has long since added them, so firefox has lost it's purpose as far as I am concerned.

I think this may help you. If it's showing some combination of history/bookmarks:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/...Location%20Bar

that was my only issue with FF3, otherwise its pretty dandy!

I just barely fired up FF3 about 10 minutes ago and I only have 4 tabs open and it's already at 116,144K

ff2 gives me no problems what so ever.

ff3 is just a plague upon the internet.
