£500? Ive had the 920n for the last 2 years and its been...unnoticeable and i mean that in a good way, no niggles, strange behavior, very reliable and so on. Cost me about £150 but then i dont believe in spending big money on equipment

Can i take it your going for some sort of widescreen, HD, all the bells and whistles thing? HAL is your best bet, he just went through the LCD revolution.

Thanks Nemo ...and now over to Hal with consumer reports...

I was looking at the A450's.Had a Samsung LN40A450 at home for a couple of days, had to return it (long story)
Ok it's like this...usually the 4's are 720P.They're the entry level TV's for Samsung.5's and 6's are the higher end models with 1080p resolution and more options.
A guy on a tv tech forum explained it like this: he has both a 450 and a 550 model. He couldn't see much of a difference (other than price)..at times the 450 outperforming the 550.

You say 500 pounds...about 1000 to 1100 Canadian dollars? Don't worry so much about the great 720 vs 1080p debate. The only thing that currently throws a 1080p signal into your TV
is a blu ray disc player or a PS3.There are no cable companies putting out a 1080p signal right now and if you believe the hype...that sort of signal will not be commercially available for years

It comes down to this...choose your resolution 720 or 1080p, screen size, response time in ms, and then read, read, read customer reviews on the various TV's according to your parameters and needs.
I wanted a new LCD TV to replace my current analog CRT TV..with no change to my current cable signal coming in.Personally...I made a stupid, unwise choice as LCD's are primarily made for a digital signal
and also made to display an HD signal, two different things that are over and above my current cable set up.

I put a 40" LCD TV in a small room (about 7' x 10') and it overwhelmed the room I also still had the analog cable signal coming in which is in a 4:3 ratio. The LCD TV tries to stretch the picture
to it's native 16:9 ratio which looks very, very crappy. Not saying all LCD's look bad with normal cable, this Samsung couldn't do it without picture degradation.

Conversely I hooked it up to a crappy old DVD player with crappy old AV inputs (the red, yellow and white jacks) and the picture looked amazing!
It demonstrated what the Samsung could do with a reasonably good signal coming into it

So...if you're going to get a digital signal coming in, I would save the extra 100-300 pounds and pick up either the LN32A450 or the LN40A450.
They are 720p TV'S, they have all the normal Samsung connectivity (lots!) and an in depth, yet easy to understand picture menu.

In Canada the 32" is currently 680 dollars, the 40" is currently 998 dollars.A good price for a TV with a good picture reputation.

I was in Wal-Mart (yea! my favorite trailer trash store!), looking at the very large display of LCD flat screens and Sony did appear to have the best picture. I have been very happy with my Samsung monitors so I greatly appreciated Hal's experience and subsequent report. I didn't look at the price or even the model of the Sony... mostly because The Warden hustles me out of the TV department so I don't get any fancy ideas ... so it might come down to how much money you have to spend vs. what is available to you. There the Samsung may win out.
