| Is the general rule of thumb still only rebuild/replace 8s and big 6s. As far as trans and engines go. That and big 6s sometimes and other motors depending on how special they are, like a straight six or a four made for racing. Or has it changed. My dad was going to get a 8 in a Crown Victorian replace before my mom gave him her car

| itty bitty ditty ![]() | I own a 05 Silverado that I've been having some "mysterious and unsolvable" issues with and I am looking for as many opinions as I can get The issue that I have been having from the first year that I bought the truck feels like a suspension issue to me. Symptoms and conditions: any bump that I hit feels like I just hit a good sized pothole. Given the right speed (excess of 55) and if I am turning slightly the truck will pull to one direction or the other. I just bounce everywhere and I'm sick of it. I've taken it to the dealership on average about every 3rd month with the same problem and the only response that I get is either they could not reproduce the condition or something in the steering needed to be tightened or replaced. At one point the intermediate steering shaft was replaced. After it was tightened/replaced everything felt smooth for a couple of weeks but then went back to shit. It was even blamed on my tires at one point, but it still happened after I replaced them (and I suspect this problem lead to the early wear on the tires) Like I said my first thought was the front end suspension but they say it is fine. Then again my dealership is in an expanding part of town and all the roads are pretty smooth. I've been told by a couple of sources my shocks were fine but would the springs have a part to play as well? It's a mystery to me and I don't know shit about automobiles. Any thoughts?

| if your truck has a front sway bar and one of the end links are broken that would produce symptoms similar to the ones you are noticing |

| hello all, i'm alive and well! been busy at work, doing alot of fishing, just got back from vacation-gulf of mexico(fishing) god i love tuna! now as far as the bouncing truck-do you have the original size tires on it? did you go larger? someone has responded that the sway bar links could be broken, i doubt it-dealers try to make money due to such high overhead to run a shop, they would have seen this and suggested replacement. now here's my opinion: front end alignment can cause whats called a caster shake, caster is the tilt of the wheel spindal from top to bottom. IE:a shopping cart front wheels have large amounts of caster in them. caster is the angle that makes the front wheels return straight after a turn. it also makes the steering more stable at high speeds, but like all things too much can create problems. caster is the one alignment angle that most shops and dealer mechanics hate to fuck with, so with this i sugest finding a good shop and have them check this. P.S: I HAD THE SAME TRUCK IN MY SHOP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM! AN ALIGNMENT SOLVED THE MYSTERIOUS SHAKING THAT APPEARED THEN VANISHED. |

| hello all...have a car question (not really mechanical) my 6 yr old took a black sharpie to my roof lining...I've been to strauss and a few mom-n-pops, i've googled but i don't have the "onions" to actually try anything....its a black line on a grey lining...I'm afraid anything i use will turn the line into this great big smudge....anyone have a sure-proof way to get the ink out?!?!? |

| Actually, to help clarify Mandi's post on alignments... caster is the angle of offset from the top to bottom ball joint alignment. If you draw an imaginary, straight line from the upper ball joint through to the lower and view this imaginary line from the side of the vehicle. Camber is the angle in which the tire leans in or out from the vehicle and is measured the same way, by drawing a straight line through the upper and lower ball joints, but viewing the line from the front of the vehicle. Alignments are critical and sometimes factory settings need altered to accommodate user mods, such as lift kits, larger tires, driver weight, etc ... These 2 angles produce the third angle known as "Steering axis inclination". This is what you feel when you turn your steering wheel and feel the car rise and fall. Only trying to help clarify alignment angles, it was my specialty for many years!

| All the things I've seen about removing sharpie involves solvents and steam cleaning, which are difficult to do on a headliner. |

| Exactly right. Both solvent and steam would most likely release the glue holding the material to the foam lining. |
