Thanks Mandi. I've had a look at it and can't see anything at the moment but I'll have another look when I go back to work.

CHEWY: there's also a chance that the turbo wastegate is not functioning right, in which case the turbo is creating to much boost pressure(engine damage!!!) get it to a mechanic asap!!!

That's what I was thinking. Had a look around and couldn't see any loose hoses or hose clamps, or any damage to the hosing.

chewhacca: i'm not one to create pannick, so i'll ask you this-with the noise does the engine seem to have a little more power then before? if it does-then this is from more boost pressure-and you can be sure then that something is wrong with the waste gate & it might be creating to much boost .

It doesn't feel any more powerful than usual. At times it actually feels like it has less power than usual.

I can vouch for the Cavaliers. I used to drive a Sunbird . Mine treated me alright, but you had to be meticulous about maintenance or else the car would leave you stranded!

The only really naught thing it did was decide to bust the voltage regulator on the alternator. Sent it into some sort of "overcharge" mode and tried to blow up the battery. It was literally blown up like a stuck pig! Sorry, Porky

IFBear - OEM tires are notorious for being low grade and really crappy on tire wear. Most of the ones I've seen tend to go south around 40k so you're not that far off.

Is your Silverado 4WD? Maybe the drivetrain is binding up when it shouldn't, causing excessive wear on the tires?

I have a 95 Taurus that burns out headlights after about a month. the right one burns out after about two uses and the left will last about twice that long. I have changed these type headlights for years with no problem before.

Those are Halogen bulbs, right?
Are you making sure to not touch the bulb or get anything on it (Fingerprint, dirt, grease)? Or is there moisture inside the lens?
Halogens burn so hot that even the oil from your fingerprint or a little moisture will cause it to burn out quickly.

DOGEME: (1) MAKE SURE YOUR NOT TOUCHING THE GLASS OF THE BULB WITH YOUR FINGERS!! HALOGEN BULBS GENERATE A LOT OF HEAT AND THE OILS IN OUR SKIN CREATES HOT SPOTS THAT WILL CAUSE THE BULBS TO BLOW
(2) IF YOU HAVE TAKEN CARE NOT TO TOUCH THE BULBS WITH YOUR FINGERS THEN IT'S POSSIBLE THAT THERE IS A BAD GROUND CIRCUIT AT THE BULBS

IT'S HIGHLIGHTED IN YELLOW @ THE BOTTOM OF THE FIGURE
FIND THESE GROUNDS AND CLEAN THEM, TOO MUCH ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE IN THE CIRCUIT CAUSES THE BULBS TO OVERHEAT AND BURN OUT QUICKLY
(3) THERE IS ALSO A POSSIBILITY THAT THE ALTERNATOR IS OVER CHARGING , OVER 15 VOLTS OF ELECTRICITY-WHICH CAN BE CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE VOLTAGE REGULATOR OR A WEAK BATTERY

*THIS WIRING DIAGRAM IS FOR A STANDARD 95 TARUS, I NEED MORE INFO AS DO YOU HAVE DAYTIME RUNNING HEADLAMPS?
**MAKE SURE YOUR BUYING GOOD QUALITY BULBS

Default Mandi, you Rock!!!

Mandi, I just read through this entire thread and I just have to say that you rock!

I'm going to have to find something wrong on my car now..... besides the eternal problem with the bird poop..

It's true that no that many people hang around in this part of the forum. They mostly come here when they cant download the latest smut or have other IT issues.

Perhaps Mr Mugglez can put a little sticky in Gen chat for you.....

How 'bout it Mugz? A sticky with a link to here....

You know you want too.....

go on then.....

Just for a little while.....

Thanks,

I know not to touch them but I think my problem is moisture in the lens. Not sure how it is getting there. I'll check tomorrow for cracks.

DOGEME : I HAVE A TENDANCY TO OVERLOOK THE SIMPLE THINGS ON HERE , SORRY!! IT'S BECAUSE I SOMETIMES THINK PEOPLE HAVE GONE TROUGH THE SIMPLE SOLUTIONS FIRST, MOISTURE IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH TODAYS HEADLAMP ASSEMBLYS, THE WATER GETS IN THROUGH THE SEEM AT THE TOP OF THE LENSE HERE:

GO TO AUTOMOTIVE STORE AND BUY CLEAR SILCON SEALANT, PULL BACK BLACK RUBBER SEAL AND RUN A BEAD OF SEAL ALONG UPPER EDGE

IF THERE IS A LOT OF WATER IN THE LENSE, DRILL A 1/16 HOLE HERE, FOR WATER DRAINAGE

Mandi's right. I had to do this for my NX...kept blowing bulbs until I really looked at when the bulbs blew...after every rainstorm. If there was just drizzle, it was OK, but here we get major storms now and then, and I found a tiny pinprick of a hole...it was all that it took to blow the bulb.

Clear silicone sealant cured that for me, too!

how many miles has it done? How handy are you with tools? If you can, take off the the pipe going to the centre of the silver part of the turbo (when the engine is cold) put your thumb and forefinger in the hole until you feel a little-ish point (about 1/4" across) hold that with your thumb and forefinger and see if you can move it about side to side/up also check if you can move it back and forth. If you can, it means your the bearings on the turbo are on it's way to being/already is scrap and the noise your hearing is the blades rubbing against the housing. It would also cause your lack of power

it could also be a boost leak. find all the soft pipes between the turbo (the bit that looks like where the snail would come out) and the engine. Starting from the engine, squeeze the soft pipes (not too hard though lol) and rev the engine while you do it, one at a time, you should feel the pipe expanding and forcing the air through the pipe, if not, work your way back to the turbo until you feel the pipe expanding. You'll probably find where your boost is going AWOL between the pipe that's expanding and the last pipe you checked btw, that's a basic check to do, it won't guarantee results lol it could also be a wastegate problem as mandi said above

sorry for the long winded response though and please, don't think I was being patronsing
