| British Telecom - i'm also with them, i've also been having this problem (for about 36 hours, now), & the sooner my contract with them expires, the happier i'll be... ...However, i suspect that this case is a non-BT, RapidShare-server problem somewhere that's specifically affecting UK user's, as folks are still happily uploading stuff from other parts of the world, judging by http://www.rslinks.org/ ... ...Hopefully it'll get resolved tomorrow (maybe the admin's don't like working weekends?), & i'll be able to grab the 8th & final part of an 800Mb download i started before the problem hit me... ![]() |

...You see, in my case i've GOT a premium account, & i had to change it's preferences to 'Direct downloads' before the https-trick would work. I then had to be logged in to my account, which meant finding ANY RS-link that was working, because the homepage wasn't. Of course this now means that i will have to either keep my browser permanently open & logged in to RapidShare, or bookmark a working link so i can log back in again! I originally opened the Premium account when i lost the use of free-downloads on rapidshare.com (rapidshare.de free-downloads still worked). Apparently this happens because the free service keeps track of your downloads by monitoring your IP-address, whereas Premium accounts do so through cookies. The IP-address method can get screwed up if your ISP uses a single IP for several user's by means of a 'transparent proxy-server' - which BT do, allegedly... ...So if anyone using the free-service keeps being told that they have reached their download-limit & to wait 75-minutes, even though they haven't downloaded anything, that'll probably be why. There's another UK-based ISP that uses proxy-servers, & when one of their members had this problem they gave him a list of proxy-server URL's to configure his browser with, thus resolving the problem; When i asked BT's technical-help department to do likewise, they told me they didn't have access to that information... ...If i wrote here precisely what i thought of that, i'd probably get banned, so you'll have to use your imagination. Thanks, Ben - your post inspired me to try & figure out this workaround, & now my 800Mb download is complete! Oh, yeah! One other thing regarding some of the earlier posts - my first-hand impression is that BT definitely cap people's bandwidth during peak periods, although you probably have to piss them off first by exceeding your monthly limit, like i did last January... | |

| No they don't use proxy servers AOL do though so you're stuffed unless you have a premium account.

| I didn't see this anywhere else in the thread, so I figured I'd post it here..... I seem to have found a way to fool Rapidshare into forgetting about the DL limit for non-premium users. I thought you might like to about it. A couple things to know, though. I'm using the Opera browser, so I don't know if this trick will work with IE, Netscape or other browser software. Secondly, my Internet connection is ADSL that can be connected or disconnected, much the same as dial-up. If your connection is active all the time and can't be turned off, I don't believe this trick will work. 1. DL any file from Rapidshare.com. Try a big file, just so you can see how well this works. 2. Once the DL is complete, try getting another file. You'll see the standard 'must wait XX minutes to DL another file' notice. 3. It's at this point that the internet connection needs to be severed. Once you've done that, try refreshing the DL page. If it works as it's supposed to, the page will reload in a mostly text-only format, which is obvious, since there's no connection to access the HTML files for the page. 4. Your browser will continue to attempt to load the HTML for the page, with little success. Stop the loading process and re-establish the internet connection. 5. Refresh the DL page again. Voila! For DL times of 60 minutes or so, the waiting time should now be eliminated completely. For larger files with a 90-plus minute waiting time, the process may need to be repeated for this to work. I tried this no less than 10 times in a row, and it worked every single time. I'd like to try and provide screencaps for this process, but unfortunately my POS computer is not up to the task. If someone else is able to duplicate this feat, feel free to post some step-by-step pictures. Hope this helps......

| Point 3 doesnt work 4 me. Refreshing the page when not connected to the internet just gives a cannot connect message, then reconnecting and the dl page reappears as before, ie wait 120 mins ! |

| I had a rapidshare premium account that I let lapse after three months. After 30 days, the premium account was deleted. Is there anyway either through the collector's account or another premium account that I can link my old uploaded files to my new account? I know the files are still there because the download links I posted in the forums here still work. I had 10 gigs of stuff uploaded and am not about to upload it all over again, but it would be nice to still be able to earn points off these files if I get a new account. |

I'm thinking sharing direct downloads must cost you premium points because Rapidshare have to limit the downloads somehow because they don't bring in any revenue to the site. interesting stuff.Oh, and if I have to check every stupid box like I normally do with Rapidshare i'm actually going to go crazy

| I recently collected 10 000 points through my collectors RS-account. When I click convert points I see the following message "Please notice that your files will NOT be available anymore in your collector's account after this transfer." Exactly what does this mean? Will the files I've uploaded in my collectors area still be available at same downloadlinks as now? Will I be able to keep track of my RS-files in a similar manner as I have done so far in the collectors area with a premium account? Because if not I need to back up and save the downloadlinks. If anyone knows exactly what happens to your files when converting points to a 30-day premium account, please explain! thx in advance Last edited by siggesorks : 05-27-2007 at 06:27 PM. |
