U.S. and No.Korea in the finals.

Germany and France go down in flames!

You could see how much better Germany was compared to England who the U.S beat 3:0 the other day! The U.S. had a tougher job, but still pulled it out!

A little off topic but in response to the babe alert...

American females who:
play soccer= 90% hot.
play softball= 90% horrid, fucking, unbelievably, misshapen, horrid. With 2 or 3% uber-hotties thrown in to make you go "HMM how the fuck did they get on the team?"

You leave me little notes on my pillow. Told you 158 times I can't stand little notes on my pillow. "We're all out of cornflakes. F.U." Took me three hours to figure out F.U. was 'Felix Unger'.

Chile rises to USA starlet Morgan
(FIFA.com) Wednesday 3 December 2008

Alex Morgan, who names her idols as Robinho and Michelle Akers, only started playing football seriously at the age of 13. However, she has emerged as the star of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2008. Whenever the USA goal-getter takes possession, Chile’s stadiums erupt with anticipation. Both her long hair and her natural footballing elegance excite attention and comment. And last but absolutely by no means least, her three goals have helped propel the USA into the semi-finals.

She is not entirely comfortable with her new-found celebrity status, though: "Obviously I’m a little proud, but I’m just part of the team. I’m thrilled to find so many people supporting the US here. Everything for my team,” the 19-year-old California native explains to FIFA.com, a broad smile etched on her features. "Seeing the US flags in the crowd, and the people waving at us when we’re on the bus, it’s an amazing experience."

Seeking success in Santiago
Morgan is patently at home in football-crazy Chile. As the evening sun sets on the majestic Andes mountains that form the backdrop to the picture-postcard coastal town of Coquimbo, she is in a reflective mood: "The people here have been unbelievably nice to us since the very first day. I think this is a wonderful country." But even as the reverie takes hold, this gem of a player, a sophomore at the prestigious University of California, Berkeley, retains her focus on the essentials. "There are four fantastic venues, and we’ve been to three of them. We’ll be getting to know the fourth on Sunday. That’s Santiago, and we want to contest the final there."

The crowd favourite’s confident prediction is no empty promise, judging by her impressive scoring rate so far. She and strike partner Sydney Leroux have rattled up a total of seven goals at the tournament to date. And if Morgan has her way, the tally will rise in Thursday’s semi-final meeting with a familiar foe. "We want to win the trophy. Germany and ourselves are strong. But if we can go out there and play to our potential, we’ll make it to the Final."

‘Bring on Germany’
The two giants of the women’s game have met frequently enough in the later stages of FIFA tournaments, most recently at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand, where the USA won the last four clash 2-1. Following her side’s 3-0 quarter-final victory over England in Chile, Morgan is brimming with confidence. "The Germans are very similar to the English, although they’re physically stronger and better organised. But we believe in our mentality."

The USA number 13 has faith in her team’s own strengths: "There’s always room for improvement, but I’m very happy with the way we’ve performed so far. I know we lost to China, but all four of the teams in the semi-finals have lost a game at the tournament."

Morgan is not even prepared to contemplate defeat to the Germans: "This tournament is definitely the highlight of my career to date, and we’re closer to our goal than ever before. We want the gold medal, so bring on Germany!" Alex Morgan’s new army of fans in Chile would be only too delighted to see the striker celebrating another goal or two on Thursday.

Yeah, and I'll tell you what else..I may be English, but I've seen a bit of the WNBA here and there, and OH MY GOD it's not a pleasant experience.

"And at the top of the second half, the score is 16 to nine. Easton leads the scoring with four."

'And that's why she commands $7,000 a year. These gals sure do make it look difficult.'

"But is having this minor skill worth being so unattractive? That’s for the fan to decide."

You'd think if they start a basketball league for women that they'd let a few women join some of the teams.

If you've got them, check the spanish channels. They're the only channel I've seen that has soccer.

If you look for it, there is a huge amount of soccer here in America.

I watch a TON of soccer on tv...ESPN one and two and a couple of other sports related channels show the occasional game. But, I am a year long fan of the Fox Soccer Channel...yeah an entire channel devoted to footie~! We get 4 or so English Premiership games each weekend, some live (though, that means they are on at like 9AM, 11AM etc), lots of games from Argentina, many games from the Italian leagues (some live), a weekly Australian game (live), and lots of news shows devoted to the sport (seriously, lots, the FSC shows, the sky sports stuff, recap shows like Gambare! and Football Asia (for Japanese and Asian games), premier league review and preview shows, MLS shows etc etc). They also reshow games over the next week, so if you miss them fresh on the weekends, you can still catch them later on.

Plus, reruns of the Brit soccer soap 'Dream Team', as well as fun oddities like the EPL Fanzone show, and some live call in programming, and recaps of classic games as well. On top of that there are things I DON'T watch (just so much time in the day) like the USA MLS games, college soccer, under 21 and under 17 games, etc. Sometimes I watch the ladies games, but they are almost always college and I'm not a fan of college level sports.

As for the big games, this weekend we get Wigan at Arsenal live, another game live after that (not sure what teams yet), 2 Italian league games (the first live), 2 more (not live) EPL games, plus the weekly live Aussie match at the end of the day. Then comes Sunday lol...weekends on FSC are awesome.

Fox soccer channel RULES.

Right now they are showing Lecce at Catania Calcio...

It's all over!

U.S.A. Wins!

Koreans dethroned as USA triumph

The USA are the new women's world champions at U-20 level after defeating Korea DPR 2-1 in the final of Chile 2008. Goals from the strike pairing of Sydney Leroux and Alex Morgan were enough to see them over the line, the Koreans responding with a lone strike in injury time.

The new champions started the game nervously, giving away possession and lacking cohesion. Korea DPR had the first two chances of the game; on seven minutes, Ri Jong Sim's header from five yards flew just wide, while ten minutes later Ra Un Sim found herself free in front of goal, but her hesitation allowed USA defender Nikki Marshall to clear in the nick of time.

Gradually the Americans worked their way back into the game, and they took the lead on 23 minutes. After Ri Un Hyang had failed to clear the ball properly, Keelin Winters sent an adroit pass through to Sydney Leroux, and the striker notched her fifth goal of the tournament, firing the ball just under the crossbar from the edge of the penalty box.

There were two more chances for the USA in the succeeding minutes, Leroux almost taking her tally to six and Christine Nairn stinging the hands of Kim Un Ju from 22 yards. It took a moment of individual brilliance to double the USA's lead, however: Alex Morgan took off on an inspired run, beating three Korean defenders before slamming a left-footed shot into the top corner of the net. A brilliant goal, worthy of a final.

After the break, the USA showed their defensive resilience as the Koreans were largely limited to shots from distance. There were three half-chances after the hour in quick succession, one for Korea DPR and two for the USA, but subsequently the Americans slowed the tempo and took control, passing the ball around calmly and not allowing their opponents too much possession.

In injury time, Ri Ye Gyong played Cha Hu Nam in on goal nicely, and the latter volleyed home for Korea DPR's consolation goal. But it was too late: the USA are U-20 women's world champions.
