sport The 2008 Olympics Thread

Just figured that if anyone is watching any of the Olympics, we can discuss it here to keep it all in one place.

Just read that there is a huge loss for the Serbian team as Ana Ivanovic just withdrew because of injury.

Also happy to see Phelps off to a good start winning gold earlier today on his quest to break Mark Spitz record

And USA/China tip off in hoops later today

Yay! Finally an Olympic thread! Was wondering why there aren't any... Though, the events Im looking forward (track and field) has not started yet, but some very interesting and entertaining events going on already. Latest was the great basketball game... Whoa!
Team USA annihilated China in basketball! Was really entertaining game all in all and effective aswell.

BEIJING -- The U.S. Olympic basketball team treated President Bush and perhaps a billion more fans to a game to remember.

With LeBron James and Dwyane Wade soaring for dunks that thrilled the raucous crowd at Beijing's basketball arena, the United States pulled away for a 101-70 victory against host China on Sunday night.

Wade scored 19 points and James had 18 for the Americans in one of the most highly anticipated events of these Summer Games.

Houston Rockets All-Star Yao Ming scored 13 points for China.

Go Team Wales!

Nicole Cook takes the gold in the womens cycle road race.
Technically it was less about cycling since the race took place more or less under water thanks to the incredible rain but she held it together in conditions that defeated many talented racers.

Well done girl! Da iawn!

Injury time goal forces US to settle for 2-2 tie
One reason I can't stand soccer most of the time!

Let's have some secret amount of time tacked on to the end of the game that only the referee knows when it will end so the other team gets a chance to score

it's not secret... it all depends on which team is willing to pay more...

So the Dutch paid more because they couldn't stand losing to the US side?
