Why do people think Beckham is a world class player? Ive seen him play for the better part of 15 years and the only thing he has is a great right foot, if he doesnt get many corners or free kicks then his contribution to a team isnt gonna be great. You have to understand, LA Galaxy are paying for the brand 'Beckham', not the player. If you want to guaranteed a show then you need to see Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Diego or Kaka......... these are real special players, not just prima-donnas

Oh, Lomax, i think you'll find you are wrong mate. Beckham's deal with LA Galaxy is for £128 million over 5 years ($50 million per year), its just made up in different ways. His basic salary is around 20% of that, the rest is made up by sponsorships etc.

Quote:
Months of speculation over David Beckham's future have finally been resolved after he confirmed that he will join the LA Galaxy on a five-year deal worth £128m (£25.6m per year) at the end of his Real Madrid contract this summer.

A move to America would not have been possible under previous MLS salary cap rules, which limited teams to an overall salary of about £1m per year, but a new designated player rule, already commonly known in America as "the Beckham rule", now allows each team to sign one player whose salary does not count towards that cap.

Even with the salary cap constraints removed, Beckham's pay packet far outstrips what could normally be afforded by a team whose stadium holds just 27,000 spectators, and it has taken some creative thinking from American Idol creator Simon Fuller, who represents Beckham, to achieve such a huge sum. It is understood that less than a fifth of the overall figure will come from Beckham's basic wage, with the greater part made up of a combination of sponsorship deals, merchandising sales and a participation in club profits.

Unfortunately thats not far from the truth, imho a middle of the league English Premier side would win every single game if they played in MLS but hopefully, the standard will continue to improve......... after all, the US is a huge place!

unfortunately I agree but I do see the day when we can compete on a global scale. I see the talent that is coming out of our high schools and colleges and it seems to get a little better every year

especially since some started hiring foreign coaches

There are definitely world class atheletes in the US . . . it's just a matter of getting them to play the game. Can you imagine if someone like Allen Iverson or Barry Sanders or any other MLB, NFL, or NBA All-star played soccer?

Definitely Football (soccer) is the largest played sport worldwide, its only a matter of time before it takes over the US as well

I'd love to see Henr at OT, don't know if it will happen though tbh, think this is just a case of Fergie putting pressure on Spurs to sell Berbatov.
