you mustn't overrate these pre-season games...

Hamburg apparently just sold dutch international Rafael van der Vaart to Real Madrid for some 13 million euros. I think that's a decent price for him seeing as his contract expires at the end of next season, but I wonder how HAmburg will find a suitable replacement at short notice and without spending all the transfer fee they just got.

I think I'll buy some tickets for the tournament (20-30 euro for two games).. I'd like to see Inter vs. Ajax!

And yea, Rafael to Madrid, it's a dream becoming true for the guy (I am a big fan of vdV) , but I don't know how much he will have the opportunity to play on his favorite place.. Sneijder is indeed injured, and apparently at least for 3 month, so Rafael is just in time to win the hearts of the Madrilisti! Here in Amserdam we always had the discussion about Sneijder and vdVAaart, that they could not be put in the same team because the midfield would be too weak defensively. Nonetheless San Marco tried it at the European Cup with Holland and prooved against Italy France and Romania that it IS possible..

Considering HamburgSV they lost an incredible player, rafael is not to be replaced, even with the full 13 million, I'm quite sure about that. But, after all, the Hamburg team as a whole is not bad at all, only thing is their focus on one man man will have to shift to a team focus.

I guess van der Vaart is happy to take the opportunity, because he's been waiting for it for some time now. If he doesn't make it into the first team in Madrid, he cans till go on to a midsize team, but at least he'll have tried.

i think real madrid bought a nice player, but now they have plenty of midfielders...
i dunno why a team do that, because they risk to spend millions and millions for a player that will spend most the season sitting in the bench...

i think that the way that milan and juventus lost their preseason games is a bit too much. i mean, you have to grow your confident in this period, and losing 0-5 is a nice hit to the morale...

I gotta get a little excited...how often do you get a chance to say that the United States is undefeated in Olympic play?

that's tue, you better bank on the football team for this one, the Bballers will have to do some work to convince me they're worthy successors to Jordan, Johnson Bird et al.

I was impressed with the hoops team up until that debacle against Australia...the Aussies didn't even play all their starters and they hung right there with the US...not a good sign

They're in a good first-round group, with China, Spain, Angola and Germany and another filler team I think. Should serve as an excellent warm-up and they can't possibly fail to qualify. It's gonna be fun to see Dirk Nowitzki and Chris Kaman play together, too.

Ohhh, no I get it, the US men's team won against Japan, I thought the women had but they'll play them later. I'm shocked to see they lost to Nroway though.

Yeah, not a great start for the US women's team...a shutout against Norway doesn't bode well for the rest of the tournament

I'm thinking the US men should be able to beat Nigeria and that might be enough to get them through to the next round
