Yeah, Diego intends to compete in Beijing. That's a bit unfortunate because he will miss half of the season preparation and the first two Bundesliga matches, one of which is against the dutch B squad...(Hamburg). But I don't think it's such a big deal. He always said he wanted to and Werder's coach and manager said they would only let him if they had to. Now that FIFA has said that their written rules aren't to be taken serious, that is probably the end of the story. Besides, it has transpired that the brazilian football association threatened to throw players who declined to join the olympic squad from the regular selecao, so I can totally understand why he wanted to go. It's a huge opportunity for him plus who knows if the brazilian officials really meant what they said?

ye that'd be a hard one from the Brazilian Football Association, but I guess it's absolutely possible, I see them doing such things.. . They have such a competitive selection, they can leave 20 players out and still have one of the best teams in the world!

I heard they really want to win the gold this year, that;'s the only trophee the canaries never won..
(i hope the european champs (...yesyes the orange.. ) will get far in the tournament! They have selcted Makaay as dispensation player, Babel is back from injuree, Maduro will finally have pepper in his buttocks and Drenthe was playing as the master from two years ago yesterday against Cameroon.

Considering Werder, who are the strikers left? I recall Rosenberg, ehmm, ehmm well..
Who would they want to buy?

exactly, Rosenberg is alright, He score some 15 goals in 30 matches, if he improves a little, he'll be fine. Then there's Hugo Almeida (portuguese), he didn't score an awful lot of goals but he is great at keeping defenders busy and making room for his fellow players. Then there's Boubacar Sanogo from Ivory Coast, very talented but somewaht unstable, plus two youngsters: Aaron Hunt and Martin Harnik, they might come through this season, but it'd be unwise to rely on them just yet. Whom would they buy? Good question. They have 15 million tops to spend, so the problem is you don't get an international top striker for that kind of money. They will have to hope they find some underrated gem somewhere and maybe keep part of that money for next season.

am i wrong or hugo almeida scored a super goal with a free kick from his home? i don't remenber the game, maybe is agaist inter when he was at the porto...

with 15 milions the market is pretty much thight... but i've heard marseille is selling cissé for 7 millions...
or maybe you just have to buy takahara and bring him back to real football,

Almeida has earned a few caps for Portugal so far and scored a few goals as well, but I don't think he played many matches for POrto's first team before he went to Bremen.

It's really tricky to find a good striker for that kind of money. We wanted a guy from Bolivia who looked really impressive, and he was affordable, too. But soon after Werder offered 8 or 9 million euros for him, Shakhtar Donezk offered 16 plus a higher salry and he went there. Greedy idiot. I hope he freezes his ass off.

i was speaking of this...

well, greed is the ruin of football...
a good striker is hard to find, especially if you have a real need of him... you shoul try wiht giuseppe rossi of villareal, they bought him for 10 millions one year ago, he is very young and talented... and also open to move to other countries!

The same applies to Messi at Barca, he wants to play in the olympics but apparently Barca are willing to take it to court to keep hold of him!

which makes no sense at all because he's under 23 and their league doesn't even start until after the olympics...

barca is afraid of fail tha qulification to the champions league, so they want to keep their best player. but is a rule to let under 23 go to olimpics, so i think they are juist arrogant to do wat they are doing...
and then, they have a kid named bojan, a very strong kid...

The NBA is doing the same thing with some of its players here, even the foreign born players. When you sign a contract for the huge sums of money these guys are making, the team has a huge investment in them (especially in a league like the NBA where the salary is guaranteed money).

I can see it from the team's point of view that they don't want their players injured in the Olympics...

some friendly matches are gone and some more are coming...
yesterday hamburg defeated juventus 3-0 at the emirates cup in london, what a bad game played by the italian team... i've heard that snejider had a very bad injury in the last match of that cup, but still no news about that...
another huge loss for an high ranked italian team, ac milan got a bad 0-5 against chelsea in the rail cup in moscow... the really nead a goalkeeper...
on the 8th and 9th of august there will be the amsterdam tournament, that will see ajax, sevilla, inter and another team that i can't remember, but it will be very nice to see!
