And since the Avalanche can't keep the puck out of their own net, that pick does us absolutely no good.
He scored 3 goals this year where he skated past both defencemen and roofed the puck into the top corner. ALL 3 times the only space that was available was about 4-5" and he hit it each time. Absolutely sick goals. Just freakin' amazing to watch. Not to mention the other goals he scored or set up.
If Colorado can score enough goals, their weak goalies won't matter (as much). Plus, they might grab a good goalie tomorrow in the 3rd or 4th round.

I think the Red Wings proved for a few years now that you can have a successful team without having Marty Brodeur in the goal, and again NO GOALIE has been taken on the 1st round this year anyway.

I think hockey goalies are much like soccer goalies in that it takes quite a long time, in to their 30's, before they are any good at the highest level.

M-A Fleury might still not be in his 30's yet but he proves what your saying here is right...took him a few years to get to the level he is now (lets hope the same happens with Price )

Then they could have gone with a defenseman...seeing that they are lacking that as well

I'm not saying he isn't a great player, but for a team that needs goaltending and defense, that pick is bizarre. They could have picked a defenseman or they could have traded the pick away for extra picks or some good quality established players.

One player isn't going to turn around the 2nd worst team in the NHL by himself, especially with the horrible netminding and defense that Avs have.

One of only a few in the first round that might be able to step into the NHL sooner than most though. He looks like a dynamite pick to me and could be trade bait anyway as many other teams were (are) interested in him. July 1st will be judgment day for the masses.

You forgot that some compare him to Steve Yzerman so no matter what your team needed he was the best player still available.(If Hedman would still have been available I' m sure they would have picked him instead.

Lance... in case you didn't know:The Colorado Avalanche have traded Smyth to the Los Angeles Kings for puck-moving defenceman Kyle Quincey, blueliner Tom Preissing and a fifth-round pick.

At least Koivu is outta here (same goes for Kovy and Tanguay thats the sad part though) well you know as much as i do that they had LOTS of problems from some players so they cleaned the locker room of some of the veterans that were there that didn't do shit last year. The only player that they signed lately that I have a problem with is Gill the giant cone. And whats the problem with Martin?
