did you know that an iceberg displaces as much water as it contains, which is why your cold drink doesnt overflow when the ice in it melts, and why the sea level wont rise due to icebegs melting

the same cant be said of the ice that isnt in the water, i.e. antarctica

ice is less dense than water, the bits that stick out of the water are equivalent to the difference in density. The same effect is at work when you put a bottle full of water into the freezer and wait for a few hours: the ice expands and should break the bottle.

Actually it seems to be due to Ice and Saltwater

but that's exactly what I meant, the only difference between the iceberg and the tap water in your freezer is that the density of saltwater from the sea is even higher than that of the tap water, so the effect is stronger when it freezes.
