AS Story Tellers contest?

I would be interested in organizing a story tellers contest. Some of you may be be familiar with Moth Nights where people tell 5 minute stories of their experiences.

The Moth is dedicated to promoting the art of storytelling. We celebrate the ability of stories to honor the diversity and commonality of human experience, and to satisfy a vital human need for connection. We do so by helping our storytellers to shape their stories and to share them with the community at large. One goal of The Moth is to present the finest storytellers among established and emerging writers, performers and artists; another is to encourage storytelling among populations whose stories often go unheard.

This would be similar but in written form limited to one post length. Here are my suggestions for how the contest will work:

• Open subject matter (at least for the first time)
• One post length maximum (I will need mod help if someone screws this up)
• Each submission will be user created in it's own thread
• The user will create a 10 option private poll for scoring 1-10 (I will need mod help if someone screws this up)
• Submissions will be open for 1 week with voting open for an additional week, then closed and total points will be tallied to determine the top 10
• The top ten will all be asked to submit a NEW story all in one thread, still limited to one post length
• The finalist thread will have a private poll with each finalist's user name
• Voting will be open for 10 days to determine the winner.
• The top 3 get recognition and the winner gets a cool prize.

Can I get a Mod volunteer to help me?

Totally member judged just like the audience at a Moth night!

The AS community is chock full of great experiences and we know we have some tremendous story tellers in the crew. This is an opportunity to let them shine and have a few laughs.

We need some simplification of the process, however. I'm not sure I have the time to volunteer right now.

Wouldn't it be more simple to have all the stories in one thread
rather than users creating separate threads and polls?


eg Open the thread, give a finite time for entries and then choose
the top 3 out of that thread when time runs out? Then perhaps have
a vote-off from the top 3?


and..


perhaps users could submit more than one story too?
