Rant British Justice System...........what a joke

over the last week 2 murder cases quite close to me have been held. the outcomes of both are shocking IMO. both cases were found guilty and given life sentences.

Case 1 - three men brutaly attack a gang of partygoers, murdering one young lad, one of the attackers was a marine so was fully aware of how to deal with himself, another was a bouncer so is very capable when it comes to fighting.

their sentences are -Life sentences but may only serve a minimum of 16 years, while the other will be in custody for at least 14-and-a-half years. The time already spent in custody will be deducted from their sentences, this i dont agree with, the sentence should be in full from the time the judge gives it.

full story - http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wa...1466-21445187/

Case 2 - (happend just 6 miles from me, and in a workmates street!) a 22yr old man beats a man of 40 to death because he had apparently insulted his girlfriend. not only did he murder him but he took photos of his victim as he lay dying instead of calling for help. he then went on to show these photos to his girlfriends family and friends who called the police. this lad was proud of the fact he did it and often boasted about the damage he could do with his hands.

his sentence was jailed for life – and must serve a minimum of 13 years and 195 days in prison. if he serves only this he will be only 35 when released!!!

full story - http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wa...1466-21439668/

What i want to know is why Life doesnt mean Life, i remember when i was young life sentences carried a minimum of 25 years, yet these days Murderers get appalingly easy sentences. my only guess as to the reason they get so easy is because of the whole human rights bullshit, as far as i can see theirs should have ended when they ended their victims lives!

the fact these murderers got such a short sentence is disgusting especially since all of them knew what they were doing and 2 of them were trained to fight, one even trained to kill without remorse.

why cant our prisons take a leaf out of the American system, their prisons seem like hell compared to our holiday camps. not only do they get 3 decent meals a day (reports say prison food is better than hospital food), they get sky tv, movies, tv's and even playstations in their sells! no wonder so many criminals over here re-offend, its better inside than out here!!!!!

A friends father recently got sacked from the Prison service after 20yrs. all he did was give a prisoner who refused to move out of a chair to go back to his sell a clip arround the back of his head. the prisoner reported him and as it was on camera he was sacked instantly. if i were his boss i would have congratulated him! i did have plans to apply for the service untill this happend to my mates dad. When did we get so bloody soft???

I know the system here is messed up. I know this guy here in Belfast who was speeding down the road on a motor bike, He had no license or insurance and he was doing 80 miles per hour when he ran over child.

The child died obviously and the 18 year old bike rider only served 6 months in jail.

They do the same thing here in the US. Why? Revenue generation. It would seem that more and more police forces (from local to the state level) are being used almost strictly for revenue generation. Between speed traps and DUI (driving under the influence) checkpoints here it has gotten ridiculous and very blatant that for the police it has become generate revenue first and serve and protect becomes secondary.

Don't get me wrong, speeding and drunk driving can be very dangerous, but does it warrant setting up speed traps or DUI checkpoints every 100 yards? Only if the intent is to generate money for the municipality or state.

A couple of months ago I had to call the cops to make a noise complaint against one of my neighbors, granted not an emergency by any stretch of the imagination, but it still took the cops nearly an hour to show up. And this wasn't in the middle of the night or the early hours of the morning, it was the middle of the day on a Saturday.

And as for the British justice system, we have the same issues on this side of the pond. There are too many judges that are allowed to 'interpret' the law as they see fit and they give outrageously lenient sentences to everything from rapists, child molesters, and murderers. So you aren't alone there with this crap when it comes to unbelievable sentences.

similar thing happend to my brother, he lived on quite a rough estate and seems to invite trouble from all the shitheads, even though he kept himself to himself. one morinin at 3am one of them decide to put his bin through his living room window and start giving him abuse and shit. he and his neighbours call the cops, they say they will come out, an hour later nothing so he calls me and i go round to find 15 kids sitin outside his house smoking and drinking. found out who threw the bin, tackled him and marched him down our local station to find it CLOSED! wtf?

police never showed so i called them the nxt day and demanded answers, to which i was told that they had a no visit policy on the estate after 1am due to all the trouble!?
their the police FFS arent they supose to be there to help???

took us 4 mnths to get him moved, and in total he made 24 calls to the police over the 9mnths he was there, only 3 were ever properly investigated (one because he got atacked and 2 for burgalry, all without charge/results). absolutely disgracefull if you ask me!

i use to wonder why people turned vigilanty, but now i know as i have had to on a few occasions. i dont condone what i have done but as i see it if the people on the recieving end didnt deserve it i would have been arrested n stuff.

Parole and early releases should be earned and determined only in special cases by wardens & governors or other elected officials. There should be no preset qualifications on life sentences (must serve a minimum of X years, eg.) and anyone going to jail on life should expect life. There should be no regularly timed parole hearings on every case. You want parole? Be an absolute angel in prison & get noticed that way. And then all parolees should be subject to close scrutiny should they ever get out. No more shameful coddling of murderers, rapists, etc.

Multi-billion-pound Tetra Pak heir, Hans Kristian Rausing, 45, and his wife Eva, 44, escape prison, even though Rausing has admitted to possession of cocaine, crack and heroin.

All charges are being dropped after a ‘protracted correspondence’ between their lawyers and the Crown Prosecution Service.

Instead, they will each accept a ‘conditional caution’, which will probably involve them promising to attend drug misuse programmes.

They will not even have criminal records, although the cautions will be recorded on police files.

After reading the above, I have to agree with the title of this thread.....

As usual its all about budget and the willingness to use it.

To jail people for the expected time you need prisons, increase sentences or terms and you need more prisons. that equals more budgetary requirements which doesnt meet political realities.

the other idea says if you put people away for real time and make prison really work the crime level will go down and youll save money in the police, economy and so on.

its somebody having the political will to bite the bullet, take a few risks with unpopularity and do something about it!

I agree. Life should mean life - with a daily reminder to the prisoner why he'd be better off dead.

The money is the real problem. Not just building more prisons and the fact that if you run out of room you have no place to put the DUI's and drug dealers for their time in prison.

But also if they had to spend their entire lives in prison the government would have to pay for their health care.

I wouldn't be worried about the sentences these guys got. Be more concerned about the people they let out after they serve their minimum sentence.

Are those people capable of doing a similar crime at the age they are released?

Where their crimes particularly nasty?

Usually the worst criminals do something stupid in prison to or act in a certain fashion that will make impossible for the powers that be to release them.
