So off topic, but I am at the library in my favorite work spot facing a window.

The second floor is completely empty, but a black man, decides to sit at the terminal directly in front of me out of all places, blocking my view of outside. I'd be annoyed if anyone does this.

He plops down his books - Sue "Overcoming Our Racism" and Rothenberg "White Privilege" titles aimed directly at me.

It feels abrasive, confrontational as if to say, "See me". It occurs to me that he may never succeed if he makes this his mission.

Makes me think of Kim Ng. Ng has worked in baseball for 17 years and is an assistant GM, besides being an asian woman.

Its not off-topic-- strikes me as just right.

One of the failures of the "liberals" (at least what Fox News would call the "liberals" anyway) is the "culture of grievance."

There are real grievances in this world, but I've seen one too many whiny "leaders" reciting a litany of the "discriminated-against". Its a terrible message, and the implicit instruction is "don't bother getting off your ass, the system is rigged, fight the power, blah, blah, blah".

I find it incredible to hear such nonsense, even as Africans clamor for green cards. Walk around New York, and you'll run into dozens of pushcart vendors, who instead of being Jewish as they were a century ago, now are West Africans. I have yet to have a native-born American black try to sell me something other than weed.

Ever.

On the other hand, I've got Nigerian princes who apparently want to give me half their bank account.

More seriously, the message is: Attitude counts. Yes, shitty things happened to black folks in America. But the bottom line is, if you live here and want to succeed, you can.

You just have to stop complaining; no one ever got ahead by listing the reasons they can't get ahead.

To me it doesn't matter how many references we can dredge up...Shotgun is white..er right.There's nary a movie made with a black/white pairing where they disregard that fact in the movie..I agree, racism still lives and breathes not just in movies...it's everywhere

So yeah just saw the movie. The complaint in the OP is kind of weak. They built the tension of the scene to go to a surprise (which they did). I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone so I'll leave it at that.

Ledoux said it right though, im pretty sure that almost everyone has judged someone wrongly, we're all just human. we just have to try our best to not have negative opinions about people that we truly dont know, no matter their color, gender, religion, whatever.

Maybe we all could be a little more proactive about ending racism but I certainly do not think it is condoned in the US anymore. Stupidity on the other hand...well, there's plenty of that still going around
