Ok time for me to step in, I have spoken to many "minorities" in my 2 and a half years her. including Smokey, MLC, Ptown, and others I didn't know were ethnically differently from myself. I would hope that they would say that I have never treated them any different from a white person. that being said i do not believe racism is dead... but I do believe that it is dying.

there was a time when our fathers taught us that black was bad, however over my 31 years on this planet (as of this saturday) I have came to one conclusion whether you are black, white, yellow, brown, or pink with purple polka dots you can be, and IMO have been at least once in your life guilty of some sort of prejudice. I don't care if you are the CEO of a fortune 500 company or a lowly electrician, something in your life has happened that made you look at the world in a different way.

As far as racism in America we all are, were, or have been slighted and made to feel inferior to someone else.

Hollywood is a business, and as such their only goal in life is to make movies, not only that but to make LOTS of money. secondly, I am of the opinion that the government needs to do away with affirmative action. just the fact that a "minority" gets a job because of how he looks other that job performance is wrong and IMO it is racism to the fullest extent of the word.

You made comment to rednecks earlier and what happens if I take offense to that? are you not generalizing that same way that "racist" Hollywood and the government are striving to "keep you down"? Please think about some of what I have I said before bashing "the white man"

I think that plays a role into the attraction of the internet. You become judged by your personality rather than your physical appearance. It becomes kinda funny when you think about how many different images people form of you before they ever set eyes on a picture. Poor T-Lishi thought I was even a brother.

I will admit it's been a while since I had someone walk up to me with the obvious assumption that I cannot understand english. I'm not sure I'd go so far as to call it dying tho'. Wasn't that long ago that I got death threats due to race. All the more sad when you figure I'm the whitest guy in America.

Great post Ledoux! Good point of how most of us do have some sort of racial/national bias within us but it doesn't make us racist or prejudice.

That's why I always prefer to music over movies because through music there's no visual conflict you might see. I've always visual myself into those songs I like. But with movie, there's good chance that some scenes/themes might make you question about its content sometimes.

I also agree with Ptown's statement saying that nowadays people take the term "racism" for grant and throw it around so easily. Life and society nowadays are much better than ever.

I agree with this statement. I have seen very intolerant people gradually change their stance. ..and to slightly agree with Wy here, perhaps it is dying very slowly.

My job takes me throughout many different neighborhoods and I always find myself asking the same question. What's going to happen? I don't think that this is necessarily racist as much as it is reactionary to things that have happened in my own past. When you are white and you are walking/driving through a predominantly black neighborhood you get stared at a lot. This makes me think that I am not the only persona who is curious about the situation. Now understand that I am not expecting anything to happen. It's just that my past has opened the notion that the possibility is there that I will be harassed because of my skin color.
...and to be perfectly honest between the black, Hispanic, and redneck neighborhoods, the last causes more pause than the other two combined.

Yes on that. Zohan -- a movie which I generally liked-- was really bad in that respect. I liked Sandler's goofy Israeli commando, and even could see the humor in Turturro's Hizbollah terrorist . . . but then they unite to face the "real enemy", redneck neo-Nazis in the service of a rapacious businessman.

You had both your #1 and your #2 in the same film.

Its not that there aren't neo-Nazis or redneck racists . . . but they show up over and over again as "the people its OK to caricature". It happens so often that it just seems lazy -- like someone's in screenwriting 101 and searching for "list of acceptable villains".

Not sure but as far as latinoes go i am pretty sure that the cast Italian and Ricans in Mexican and cuban roles. I doubt that there is enough english speaking latineos to cover the characters of their country. But then again it is acting. Wounder if they do the same thing with Asians?

British usually take the role of the southern actor. Italians and Latinoes also cover the role of native american.

I am pretty sure that the studio dont ask the question how can we keep this or that stereotype going. It is more like Morgan Freeman is hot this year what old man role can we put him in. We need a black guy in a major movie this year what balck actor is hot, or what movie can we sacrifice and put DMX or Chris Rock in to make every one happy.

It not a fair or good way of solving the problem but neither is the fact that Keanu Reeves, Nickolaus Cage, and John Travalta get work but Cuban Gooding Jr doesnt. That is where the real unfairness is in all this how many black woman get work just cause they are good looking. And how many black actor get used just cause.

And why doesnt hollywood use Bollywood and Actors from Asia. I mean asia is allot closer then Australia
