readme Serious Discussion

Since we are a little new to this around here and as AS has always been about having fun and wasting time, it might be time to review our own thoughts on how we can incorporate, administer and moderate a proper serious discussion forum.

Here's a list of our current guidelines and rules:

Serious Discussion

Discuss the serious topics of the day. No whoring! Keep the arguements to the suject, not the members!

Rules Summary

This is just a brief summary, meant to highlight the most frequently encountered violations we run across. Users are to refer to the FULL RULES for more detailed information.

Violations may result in getting yelled at, hit with a stick, or tossed on your ear. If you have any questions, please contact one of the staffers.

* BE EXCELLENT TO EACH OTHER - keep the attitudes in check, argue, but do it with civility. If you've got a personal beef with someone, take it to PM's, don't spill it out all over in public. Problem with a mod? PM another mod or DM about it.

General Conduct

Each forum pretty much makes it clear from its name and description what is acceptable in there or not. Be sure you have the appropriate forum before posting. If there is no forum dedicated to the topic you wish to discuss, use the Basement for your thread.

Before posting, please ask yourself the following question:

"Am I making a post which is either funny, informative, or interesting on any level?”
If you can answer "yes" to this, then please post. If you cannot, then refrain from posting.

(And where possible, ask yourself, has this been posted before recently?)

Make the thread title descriptive so people know what to expect.

Rules

1) Leave the attitude at the door

This forum is for wasting time and having fun. We don't want to see your constant bitching and whining, there's enough of that in the real world. Do not gimmick posters, unless intensely humorous and be prepared to apologize about it afterwards. If you don't like a thread or a poster, ignore and move on. Don't post just to start a fight.

If someone or something is making you feel uncomfortable on the forums because of direct harassment, PM the admin or one of the moderators. If you have a personal beef and need to argue with a person, take it to PM's, do not splatter it all over the public threads.

Can we all live with this in the serious discussion forum?

Do weed need some changes?
Suggestions?
Comments?
Opinions?

Let me start:

"AS members are all a bunch of porn endulging wanabee no-lifes!"

Good or bad title for a new thread? Does it matter? Can I rant in my title and start a discussion that way? Its okay to insult anyone or any group of people right?

Personally, I don't feel that this is the intent of THIS serious discussion forum. Insults are for the petty and weak. Great debates may be opinionate but are pertinent, factual and free of drivel. Serious discussion may certainly contain
some humour while keeping on point and not all discussions will be as charged as politics, religion, war and the like but for mods' sake people can we not keep out the bullshit?

thats me fugged then.

but sly, i agree there mugz, as a 'veteran' of AS myself, i've seen first hand how things get out of hand and it just spills over the whole board and before you know it members are banned/other members dont like that/membrs leave/AS feels shit for a while.

so KEEP IT CLEAN

besides, if you are arguing about something and you start someone else personally you are actually prooving that you have nothing intellegent to say...

What ever happens we must make sure that this thread about "serious discusion" stays on topic, remains serious and does not break any of the rules Mugzy has already made.

If that were to happen the irony of the "serous discussion" thread becoming goofy and landing in the "lite" area will cause a paradox that just might destroy the internet and everything we know and love.

oh yeah Spyker you are an idiot and i hate your country and cute pink bunnies.

And intel is for for people with small brains.

Seriously,

The best thing to do is to ban or pause the two member attacking each other from that particular thread. and erase any posts, or parts, that are attacks, making it so incident never happen.

You should allow swearing and outright abuse of fellow posters. These kinds of threads are more fun when they devolve into the online equivalent of a barroom brawl.

I love the Internet. I mean, where else can you disparage the hell out of somebody and then not have to run screaming for your life?

When it comes to debating, you usually reap what you sow.

You want others to respect your opinion? You want answers that relate to your point and not your person? You don't want to be measured by the same rod as your government or some political extremists from your country?

Then do likewise. Simple as that.

So censorship and moderation IS required?

*aside* Those are the site rules not Mugzy's rules.

I had ejected the threads originally hoping to avoid being cried out for censorship by moderating posts - we're still hoping to avoid that, none of us like the prospect of having to editorialize someone's post. But we need help from the other members to help keep their vicious tongues in check.

Well I'm out then

According to this I've violated 3 rules and been issued 2 yellow cards already.
And I swear...all in my first SD thread.

I hate being an over achiever.
Adios compadres, See ya in the funny pages!

to mugzy: can you make a sticky from your posting? that way it stay's on top, so everybody will (hopefully) read it from time to time....anyway, l'll start by just ignore insults instead of fighting them out in the topics, and if some keep on doing it l'll pm them.

it's just edited highlights of the main rules which are stickied in the forum & site section

most of the people who use this forum shouldn't need prompted too heavily to keep it under control

How about you ignore the ones that get to you, or out argue the ones that are rediculous?

If you dont have a thick skin, a sharp wit, and the ability to give as good as you get, then you shouldnt take part in these areas of discussion.

Obviously the mods will disagree with that last statement, but it is general rule of discussion.

Dont take the huff or take it private.
