Redistribution of wealth refers to the transfer of wealth from some individuals to others.

Methods of transferring wealth

Open them and look at the corporate bailout, a redistribution of wealth to the people who all ready have it.

Open your eyes, you are part of the middle class, which is probably where you will be for the rest of your life, along with the rest of us in that class. It only benefits you, and its not just for blacks.

Generally speaking, all taxation has some redistributive effect.

The purpose of taxation is to pay for things which benefit the nation. However, tax burdens are never precisely equal, and Government spending is rarely balanced between districts and citizens precisely. If I were to tax each citizen one dollar-- and then return them exactly one dollar in goods and services, well, that might be "fair"-- but it would be pointless.

At this point in our history, the most dramatic redistributive characteristic of the tax system is from younger poorer workers, to the older retired benefits recipients. Generational iniquities are far greater than any present or potential racial ones . . .

Among explicitly redistributive tax policies, from the Clinton Administration we have the example of the Earned Income Tax Credit, which is essentially a negative income tax for poor working folks. It was and remains an excellent policy option, for lots of reasons.

There is a kind of taxation "punitive taxation" which isn't about raising money-- but is intended to specifically to reduce the wealth of some group of people. That's more the style of say, the British Labor party, than an American policy, though there certainly are aspects of that in the American Estate Tax system. . . Estate Taxes are the only real "wealth taxes" in the US system.
