thats exactly my thoughts. Im actually "acquiring" an alternative version as I write this so possibly same as book (Dont tell me cos I aint read it)

I agree.I like Will Smith but just did not buy from the outset that he was a brilliant scientist that could cure the disease.

It would have played better for me if he was just some average joe and made it using good survival skills.

And I would NOT set up creepy mannequins everywhere if I was the last guy

Yeah, read Matheson's story, I think you'll like it a lot better.

I really don't understand why some people hate "No Country" so much. I loved the film. It's something you have to think about.

Maybe the people who are slamming it don't want to think about what they're seeing so they're disappointed when they're not seeing the usual mindless instant gratification they get from the Hollywood "blockbusters" that they've become accustomed to?

I saw No Country and There Will Be Blood recently.

Big hoo-ha about both films and had read enough going in to understand they would be different from mainstream.

No Country amazed me with Brolin's performance (understated, protected his somewhat simple wife and his military past)
Jones rang true as the sheriff who was tired and understood that the world was changing and Javier was great as the ruthless,
yet intelligent killer.

Blood disappointed me on many levels, from Lewis's weird accent and voice cadence to the Howard Hughes like ending and
meandering plot. The musical score annoyed me and seemed to build up to a crescendo, causing tension...and then nothing happens

It's like food I guess, no point in arguing about your own personal tastes.

*the scene with Tommy Lee Jones and the old timer in the wheelchair was so subtle and rang true for me.
Jones had already seen a lot of the dark side of mankind being a sheriff but the events of recent years became
so strange that he felt rendered obsolete by virtue of the environment around him, not his ability as a law enforcement officer.

That "old timer" is his Uncle (or cousin, depending on the source you quote, but the book notes him as Bell's "Uncle") Ellis, an ex-police officer injured in the line of duty, although you don't get the exact details of their relationship from the film itself.
