Not gonna do a full list, but I did have a really damn cool experience at a concert. We had gone to see Ozzie, Danzig, Sepultura, and Fear Factory. We saw Glen Danzig walking down the sidewalk behind the civic center on our way end, so after parking on the sidewalk, we got to talk to him. We went and parked and came back to the back near where the buses were (where we had seen Danzig). While we were standing there, Andreas from Sepultura came up to me wanting to know if we knew anyone that could hook them up with something to smoke. Luckily one of my buddies had a sack on him and we ended up getting high with Sepultura on their bus before the show. Once we were inside, after their first song, Max yells "We'd like to thank the guys that came to the concert and shared!" It was pretty damn cool.

I havent been to much, but last summer i went to Rock The Bells and that was amazing. Rage Against The Machine, Wu Tang Clan, Cypress Hill, The Roots, MF Doom, Jedi Mind Tricks, Murs, Public Enemy, Mos Def and Talib Kweli, and a bunch of others, my head almost exploded. This year so far I saw Lil Wayne back in january, not my favorite but i went cause a few buddies of mine did, and I just saw Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, and N.E.R.D. three days ago. Kanye was ok, but Lupe killed it, i was really looking forward to seeing him. and N.E.R.D. had a dude wearing a freaking Darth Vader suit dancing on stage, which might have been the coolest thing ever

Woohoo, I can soon add two Eddie Vedder solo and one Black Crowes to my list. $86 for a pair of Black Crowes tickets is an awesome deal considering they are long history.

Right, there's entirely too much metal being posted on this thread... no bad thing but I need to tip the balance with the last concert I went to see - last Friday as it happens.

Girls Aloud

Top qual girly pop moppetry!
Went with Ms Verm and a few friends, had a great time. There was quite a lot of nice bums in the audience alone - let alone up on stage. Yay!

The gig I went to before that was a few months ago and was a slightly different style of music.

Paganfest (UK)

This was mini-fest of Battle Metal bands. The line-up was awesome...

Tyr (whose 30 mins opening set we sadly missed)
Eluveitie
Moonsorrow

Korpiklaani

Ensiferum

-----------------------------------------------------------------

All in all, this was simply the best gig I have ever been to.
If you don't know anything about the battle/pagan/viking metal scene then just go to the shop RIGHT NOW and buy some of these bands.

It's an insane mix of musical styles, solid metal, thrash, occasionally nuggets of death and speed metal, mixed with celtic instrumentation, pirate shanties and lot's of yelling about wars!

Eluveitie are probably the most extreme band on the bill. A churning, death metal scream accompanied by powerful thrash and some truly startling celtic instrumentation. Amazingly for a band that play with such intensity and such complex instrumentation (celtic bagpipes, hurdy gurdy, fiddle and penny whislte) they are pretty much note perfect live.

Of the bands on the Paganfest bill, Moonsorrow are possibly my favourite band at the moment. Their music is described as epic heathen metal. Which means songs of 15 minutes, very layered and structured and surprisingly melodic - but as heavy as being smashed in the face with a small planetoid.

Korpiklaani were a stark contrast to the thundering drama of Moonsorrow with their own brand of good time celtic beer metal. Korpiklaani are an absolute joy to watch live. With a frontman who combines enormous stage presence with the biggest grin I've ever seen at a metal gig, they turn the intensity around and suddenly you're at a great big party.

Ensiferum were the nominal headliners but in truth it wasn't the best place to be. Following Korpiklaani (and Moonsorrow, Eluveitie and Tyr) is an unenviable situation. That they are a rock solid battle metal band is not in question, but it was clear that the party had peaked with Korpiklaani.

The next gig for me...

No, not another girly pop concert.

It's going to be Dragonforce - supported by the mighty mighty Turisas.
Dust of the battleaxe and de-louse the beard! LOI!!!!
