| I've seen Cannibal Holocaust! And Cannibal Ferox too! Cannibal Holocaust was a real horror film.... Ferox was a badly-dubbed comedy, and it WAS the uncut version. I was very disappointed. It's not that I wanted more gore or anything - the animal deaths were pretty horrible, and the fabled castration was well worth the price of admission - I just wish it had been more of a film. Cannibal holocaust is a good film, above all. It's ugly and nasty, but it makes a good point, and it has high-points and low-points and all that. Ferrox is just pish. Like getting meat cut at the butchers'. Am I the only one here that believes all the excessive gore and effects is taking away from the genre these days? I mean, killing for the sake of the blood and guts really detracts from the plot and overall character development of these films, which really should be the driving force of the genre, imo. I always thought that when you feel something for the characters stuck in these terrible situations, that's where the true horror of the "Horror Genre" comes from. Nowadays, what's being put into horror isn't really cringe-worthy. It just desensitizes you to everything you could possibly see in life. In effect, we could all probably take a gross anatomy class in med school and never be phased by the lab assignments because of what's being put out today. I agree with you. There used to be a set up before the torture started - a first act to make sure we cared about what happened afterwards. It didn't have to be Shakespeare. The girl in Texas Chainsaw Massacre caring about her disabled brother was enough. Wolf Creek does that bit, and does it well, I've heard. You know what modern horror has lost, though, and what really scared us all as kids - the sheer bad quality of the video. It felt like some jumpy, grainy, weird artefact from a psycho's basement in them days - HD and XVid is just not the same, no matter what kind of shit they lay on in post-production. The old slasher classics are still scary because they look and sound like shit. The new ones are.... movies. Plus we're all older.

| ![]() The second of the 2007 8 Films to Die For that I have seen and I feel...neutral about it. It was better than any of the 2006 films (it wouldn't take much to be better than those let downs) but it still had issues. The acting was for the most part okay, but there was some seriously hokey dialog sprinkled throughout the film. It looked like it might have had decent effects, but therein lies the biggest problem with the movie...they shot the whole thing at night and you could hardly see anything! Most of the time it was hard to keep track of what was going on. I'm guessing they did the 'shot at night' thing so they could save money on effects because it doesn't really need to look that good if you can't see it, right? Such a cop out and a big disappointment. Like I said, it was better than any of the first 8 films, but it's nothing better than an average to slightly below average monster/horror movie...

| Watched this recently: ![]() Irish black comedy. Not bad at all. It has a scene reminiscent of Dead Alive. Not much I can really say about it other than give it a shot. |

| ![]() What a piece of crap...why do they list movies as horror when they aren't really horror movies?

| Fingerprints Talk about every cliche shoved into one movie! I'm only half way through it and I'm disappointed. Lou Diamond Phillips is in it and because of that I'm concluding that he must be hurtin' for roles in semi-decent movies.

| ![]() There are big budget films, medium budget films, and low budget films. Then you have no budget films where this piece of crap fall into. There is nothing redeeming about this film. There isn't even any nudity to make up for how shitty it is! The effects? A junior high school class could have done better. The script? Again, a junior high school class could have done better. The actors? Below average at best, but I'll cut them some slack because they are a bunch of no-names. According to the DVD it won all kinds of awards...it must have been grade school kids voting because this thing is terrible...don't waste your time.

| You have a three film festival award winner there and mine was a NYC Horror film festival official winner... I'm wondering how low the judges standards must be, or how shitty the competition really is to label these films "winners".

| Looks like another "shot on video"* production. Those are inherently crappy. I don't know that I've see a single shot on video movie that I really liked, or didn't completely hate. *(Shot on video, i.e. it looks like it was recorded on VHS isntead of movie film) |

| Watched Skin Walkers last night. Not so bad...kinda predictable. Lots of GI Joe shooting..aka a thousand shots fired and no one gets hit while standing in the open. Also watched Cloverfield. Mixed emotions on this one. I detested the character that held the camera and he wouldn't ever shut up. The premise was very cool though and no motion sickness for me as they claimed in theaters.
