The Hills Have Eyes is not that bad. Even the rape scene is pretty censored. In fact, the only way you know she's raped is the suspicious repetitive movements behind the other dude....Pluto, and when Brenda walks out of the van, with blood on her legs. However, she is still wearing her underwear....and there are no tears in them.

The Devil's Rejects is fucking beautiful. It is not many times we get a movie where it follows the bad guys. What's even better, is that Zombie actually made a movie where we not only follow the bad guys, but can actually feel sympathetic to the characters, especially at the end. However, when told this, I told my mate to shut up and just watch the movie.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning is awesome. The 2003 TCM was crap, and after seeing that, I was really worried this was going to suck. I'm just glad there was more than two really crap chainsaw kills. This was awesome.

I am a casual fan of the horror genre. I tend to watch the more famous ones that come out and pretty much ignore the more "specialist" movies.

My favorite horror movies are
1. The Haunting - The original, lost some impact as I (and the film) have grown older, but such fun to watch and really creates a fantastic and creepy atmosphere.
2. Halloween - I saw this movie as a kid and found it dull as dishwater. But watching it again in my late teens I coulnt help but appreaciate the slow pace that lead to the tension at the end. Also the best opening of any horror movie IMHO
3. Don't Look Now - Not sure if this can be classified as an horror movie, but it is all tension and character and so utterly compelling. Also possibly the creepiest ending to a movie.
4. Something Evil - I believe this was a TV movie from the 70's. I saw this as a kid and it scared the bejeezus out of me. I never want to see this movie again because I know it pretty much sucked.
5. The Thing - FUN! FUN! FUN!

I also love anthology style movies. The best ones are the first 2 Creepshow movies, Cats Eye, and Tales From The Darkside. They are all kind of hokey, but all have some great stories and some pretty good scares. An honorable mention should go to the old TV show Tales of the Unexpected, that used to make it difficult to sleep when i was young, and the TV Special Ghostwatch. Michael Parkinson in a ghost film - pure genius.

TCM The Beginning was awesome. It was about as gory as it gets and I thought it was a well done movie. Sometimes I like to just sit down and watch some violent gore.

And as for the Devil's Rejects, what can I say that hasn't been said? That is a nearly perfect movie. I think Zombie is going to be one of the great horror movie writers/directors of our time.

And as for the TCM remake, I really didn't think it was all that bad. In fact, I think it was better than the original because for me, that was a huge let down.

I know a lot of people dislike this movie for one reason or another, but I liked it. Sometimes I like movies that leave everything up to your imagination...especially when your imagination can end up being much more disturbed than the writer and director of the film.

Yes...the book is awesome. King is my favorite horror author with Dean Koontz a close second.

I only live a few hours from the Standley Hotel where a lot of the exterior shots were done for the Shining.
