Default Referencing Outside Sources Using QUOTE Tags

First let us look at referencing outside sources using the quote tag. The end result of this process is to have a quotation which appears in a box separate from the rest of the text, and is identified as a quote. Such as:

Quote:
Man is never helped in his suffering by what he thinks for himself, but only by revelation of a wisdom greater than his own. It is this which lifts him out of his distress. –Carl Jung
This accomplished by using the QUOTE tag. This tag can either be typed or automatically inserted in the Advanced Posting Screen. The QUOTE tag looks like this:

At the start of the Quote

At the end of the Quote

To create the above quotation I typed:

If you do not wish to type the tag, or cannot remember the tag, use the forum provided QUOTE button. This can be found in the advanced posting screen here:

Simply type your quote, highlight the text you want included in the quote and hit the QUOTE button. This will insert the quote tags at the beginning and end of your highlighted text.

Default Referencing Posts in AS Using the QUOTE Button

When referencing a post within AS, the QUOTE button found at the bottom right-hand corner of every post is the fastest tool to accomplish your goal.

It looks like this:

When the quote button is selected, it brings you to the advanced post screen.

Will bring you here.

The post is fully quoted and formatted properly. You will notice two new additions to the quote that were not in the above tutorial.

This is the quoted posters name and the reference number for the quote posted. When you are all finished the quote will look like this.

The arrow in the quote after the poster's name serves as a link back to the original post.

*Note: If a thread is locked the quote button is not available.

Default Referencing Posts in AS Using the MULTI-QUOTE Button

AS also offers the opportunity to quote multiple posts quickly. This is the MULTI-QUOTE button and can be found to the right of the QUOTE button.

When you select this button, it will change to orange.

What you have done is began a list of quotes to include in you post. Simply select the MULTI-QUOTE button from each post you wish to quote. When you have finished selecting quotes. You can start your post by either clicking the POST REPLY button found at the top and bottom of each thread.

Or by using the QUOTE button found in the bottom right-hand corner of each post.

Note that if you use the QUOTE button, the post you select the QUOTE button from will also be quoted. This will bring you to the advanced post screen and should look something like this:

With each quote tagged and referenced properly. Once you post the end result will look something like this:

One thing to keep in mind is that you can use multi-quote across many threads. If you are like many ASers and keep a few tabs open and post in several threads at the same time, keep an eye out for this:

This lets you know that a quote has been selected for inclusion in this post, but did not originate in the thread to which you are posting. You can either choose to include this/these quotes

or not include these quotes.

You can safely select either without submitting your post.

no hurry, is there? Once you're done I'll just squeeze in the new post after the first two.
