Just a simple question. The underlying premise (for an affirmative answer), of course, could be just about anything, but I have in mind here a more particularized question. To wit:

Why is depositfiles a banned filehoster?

I'm just curious, more than anything else, and the only answer I can muster on my own is that it's

the Canadians' fault.

Am I right?

Depositfiles is banned because it is a revenue generating filehost. ALL revenue generating filehosts are banned here...AS is not a place for people to come to try and earn money for themselves.

That said, I've two further comments.

One: I wonder whether that policy/banning makes in fact gives the board a significantly different flavor or affords a significantly different experience (as opposed to not having the ban(s)/policy in effect). For me, for example -- an active (or quasi-active) member of perhaps a dozen fora and somewhat infrequent poster of material, there really isn't any question of earning via posting. I suspect that that's true for vast majority of members of those boards. And not that I would care if someone did earn some pocket money (or money-equivalent) by virtue of his/her postings.

and

"B": Even the mother of all hosters (rapidshare) in effect allows premium members to "earn". Apart from extending one's membership, rapidshare points are in effect saleable in lots of 10K, and having just checked I see that 40K points will buy you a 25 Euro credit from Amazon. All this is pretty close to money. (And, unless I missed it, rapidshare's not banned. )

Anyhow, them's my thoughts - not that I'm intending that an AS executive committee be formed to review the policy.

The fact is, the majority of the rules have been in place here for a very long time and I am here to help enforce them as required. Good to know you don't want a policy change as there are plenty of other places to gravitate to without rocking the boat here.

Now for the sake of forum etiquette, we will send this thread for a ride to its proper place.

I currently like this forum's present flavour, which to me is something between a Merlot or a Cabernet Sauvignon. (OK, it's more like a beer-stained T Shirt at closing time - I'm trying to give the place a good impression)
